The Digital Switchover in Bolton
The digital switchover hit Bolton in November 2009, so now is the time to ensure that you aren't going to lose your television picture due to an old TV aerial or missing equipment.
The Winter Hill transmitter which covers Bolton and the North West switched from analogue to digital signal on November 4 2009. Some TV aerials and television equipment may not be able to process this new signal, and you will need to take action to ensure you keep your television viewing. This may be a new set-top box, a new TV aerial and cabling or a satellite dish and receiver. Aerials Bolton can assess your requirements and recommend the best solution for your needs.
Aerials Bolton are best placed to help you make the correct choice to ensure your television viewing is unaffected...whether it is aerials, freeview or freesat boxes we have the solution for you!
What are the benefits of the digital switchover?
The digital switchover provides:
Communal Aerials
If you live in a flat or apartment you will most likely receive your TV signal via a shared communal aerial. This means that rather than having a separate TV aerial for each individual occupier, a single aerial provides the signal for everyone. In this case, you should contact your management company to ensure that your communal aerial system is capable of receiving a digital signal. You will still need a Freeview set-top box or TV with built-in Freeview decoder in order to continue viewing after the switchover.
Freeview
The majority of homes with an existing TV aerial should be able to access the new digital signal via a Freeview set-top box, or television with a built-in Freeview decoder. This provides more than 40 digital channels. However, in some instances, the age of the TV aerial and cabling means that the signal being received will be too weak for a satisfactory picture. In this case a new digital TV aerial will need to be fitted.
FreeSat
Where an adequate digital signal cannot be received via a TV aerial, digital broadcasting can be received via a satellite signal and a Freesat box. This provides more than 140 televison and radio channels including HD content from BBC and ITV.
Will my caravan/mobile home aerial be affected?
Yes. The analogue signal is gradually being switched off all around the country with Bolton and the North West (Granada) being one of the first areas, so if you travel to a different TV region you will need to ensure you have an appropriate digital aerial and system in place in order to continue to view.
